Traditional Hot Grog

Share:

Traditional Hot Grog has undergone many refinements over the years and can be consumed warming hot or refreshingly cold. But a traditional mug of warm Grog is just as welcome during half-time at a football game as it is after being outside on a cold winter day.

Grog first came about in the 18th century when Admiral Sir Edmond Vernon was known to have rationed rum to his sailors. He wore a coat of grogram cloth and was nicknamed “Old Grogram or Old Grog”. At that time, it was simply served as hot rum, significantly diluted in water, with a bit of spices. Eventually, the crew decided that the drink tasted better served hot and the drink stuck.
