Spicy Avocado Caper Salsa

serves 2-4

Italian capers are a surprising addition to this avocado salsa flavored with serrano chiles, fresh cilantro and lime juice. Serve it with tortilla chips or alongside sashimi or grilled fish.



ingredients

1 small white onion, diced
1 large ripe tomato, diced
2 serrano chiles, diced
Juice of 1 lime
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 tablespoons capers, drained
1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 ripe avocados, cubed

instructions

1. Rinse the chopped onion under cold water in a fine strainer (or colander). Dry it well with paper towel. Dice the tomato and serranos. (Remove the seeds and ribs from the serranos to reduce the heat.)

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the lime juice and olive oil. Stir in the chopped onion, tomato, serranos, capers and cilantro. Gently fold in the avocado. Add salt and pepper to taste.
