Grilled Plums
serves 2-4
Try these plums on their own alongside grilled meat or vegetables, or with yogurt or cream, honey and nuts for dessert. Be sure to use plums that barely give when you press them -- too ripe and they'll fall apart on the grill.
Vegetable oil
4-6 firm black plums, pitted and cut in half

1. Preheat a gas or charcoal grill to high. Brush clean the grill grate, and lubricate it by holding a folded-up paper towel with tongs, dipping the paper towel in vegetable oil and brushing the oil generously over the clean grill grate.
2. When the grill is hot, add the plums, flesh-side down. Leave them alone to form deep brown grill marks on the first side, 3-5 minutes.
3. Turn the plums over and grill them on the second side just to warm them through, 1-2 minutes. Remove them to a serving dish.
