Maple-Glazed Pears With Pecans
serves 2-4
Here's a simple glazing technique that can turn just about any fruit and nut into an elegant dessert. The combination of maple syrup, butter, and pecans is just . . . right. The same glaze would work well on the pecans alone, too.
2 pears
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup crumbled pecans
prep: 5 minutes
total: 25 minutes
medium skillet
1. Rinse, quarter and core the pears. Crumble the pecans.
2. Pour the maple syrup into a medium skillet - there should be enough syrup to just cover the bottom of the pan. Warm the syrup over medium heat. Add the butter and stir until mostly melted. Place the pears in the pan, flesh-side down.
3. Simmer everything together, turning the pears every few minutes, until the syrup and butter form a thick syrup and the pears turn dark, about 10 minutes. You may need to lower the heat as the syrup reduces.
4. Add the pecans and cook until the liquid is very thick but still pourable, another 5-10 minutes. Remove the pears to a plate and drizzle with the sauce and pecans.
