My Cookthink: the feature that launched 1000 meals

February 13th, 2008

We’re very excited about the new my cookthink section we launched today at cookthink.com. It’s got a bunch of cool features wrapped up in it, so we wanted to give you a little tour.

The foundation of my cookthink is our state-of-the-art meal builder. (What does state-of-the-art mean, anyway?)

With the meal builder, you can save multiple recipes as a single meal. In this case, I’ve added this Cucumber, Carrot And Radish Salad With Creamy Avocado Dressing and Lentil Salad With Garlic Vinaigrette to a meal I’ve named “Wednesday Dinner.” To add these Pork Burgers With Avocado Dressing to “Wednesday Dinner,” I can just click on the “yes! save it to my meal builder” link in the top right corner of the recipe.

To add a recipe to a different meal or to create a new meal, I can click on the “select meal” drop-down in the meal builder.

To see a meal in detail and make changes to it, I can click on the “edit meal” magnifying glass in the meal builder. The meal opens in a pop-up. In this case, it’s a meal I’ve named “Tuesday Dinner.”

From here, you can see how long each recipe takes, re-order the recipes by dragging and dropping them, star the meal as a favorite, make notes about it (perfect for grocery store reminders and cooking tips), print the meal or email it to a friend.

You can see and edit all of your meals by going to your my cookthink page. Click on the my cookthink link at the top of any page on the site. This is your personal hub at Cookthink. Here, you can change your password and profile; see all the recipes and reference articles you’ve starred; and sort and manage your meals.

To start using the meal builder and my cookthink, just log in to cookthink.com with the email address and password you used to sign up for the site. If you don’t yet have a free account, sign up for Cookthink here.

Let us know what you think. We’ll continue to add new features to my cookthink. Ideas and suggestions always welcome.

Can I star the blog posts too, oh pretty please? I want to save the one about saving the green onion bulbs to regrow, but I can’t because it’s not an article.

[…] You just bumped into your sexy date on a date with another date, and decide to impress your girlfriends with some South American food based on the few ingredients available in your fridge. That’s basically what CookThink offers you. Browse the tag cloud and select all the relevant items. So that would be in this case consoling, Argentinian, chicken and onion. And you get… French Onion And Shallot Soup! OK, I guess that the search engine needs some fine tuning. Give chance another spin by clicking on “Almost… show me more recipes”, which is actually my favorite page on the site. I also dig the related tips, the Meal Builder and their blog. […]

  8. Cookthink: Waste not, want not Says:

[…] This thought process is exactly what drove us to create the Cookthink search tool. In some ways, we want it to be a suggestive goad, something to get you started. Type in what you’re craving and/or what “recipe byproducts” you have on hand and we suggest some places to start. Maybe you use one of our recipes or maybe you just see some combinations that get you started. Maybe you keep track of a week’s worth of recipes using our meal builder or maybe you star favorites to save in “my cookthink.” For me tonight, I have a few carrots, half a cucumber, a boneless pork chop, and a few other odds and ends. I’m thinking maybe about some crispy pork with a light Asian-y salad. I know that that won’t go to waste. […]
