Welcome to the Cookthinktank!

January 10th, 2008

When we first started Cookthink over a year ago, our goal was to create a database of high-quality recipes and cooking-related articles, a tool that would search for them based on what you were craving, and a beautifully-designed package to hold it all together.

Since then, we’ve written and tested recipes inspired by our own food experiences and by our favorite cookbook authors and food bloggers.

Today, we’re excited to begin a new era here at Cookthink.

We’re now going to be featuring recipes written and tested by some of our favorite cookbook authors and bloggers. We call this project the Cookthinktank, and we’re happy to introduce its charter members: Lauren from VeganYumYum, Rachel from Coconut & Lime, Jess from hogwash, Jaden from Steamy Kitchen, Bee from Rasa Malaysia, and the best-selling cookbook author Barbara Kafka, whose many awards include the 2007 James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.

We’re happy to be working with them and think you’re going like the new direction we’re taking. As we continue to grow and add more bloggers and authors, Cookthink will become a hub for the best recipes from around the web and the world.

Take a look at our recipe index or cookthinktank page, or just use the “cookthink it” tool to find our recipes as well as those from the Cookthinktank.

Please stay in touch and let us know what you think.

Great idea! I hope that the list of contributors expands in the future. You already have a couple of my favorite blogs.

You have quickly become my favorite food blog and with this step forward I truly worry I won’t find enough hours in my kitchen to keep up with all the fabulous recipes!!! Bravo!

Just read about your site - really looking forward to trying it out. I was a fan of Epicurious - but the recipes are too fancy for everyday. Recently I have used recipezaar & I like the reviews, the ability to change the quantities & units (imperial or metric), the fact that there are so many recipes and the nutritional data. (My wife is expecting & doesn’t fancy meat much so I have to keep track of her protein intake) Recipezaar has the downside of a mass of dodgy recipes in amongst the good ones, but their advanced search is good.

My dream recipe site would allow me to aggregate the nutritional data from a full menu of recipes so I could quickly & easily see the stats for a whole day’s worth of food. It would also allow registered users to propose changes to the recipes (clarifications of the instructions as well as revised quantities) in true ‘open source’ fashion.

    Good luck with the site.

    Lysander

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody. We’re really excited about the Cookthinktank and will definitely be expanding the group soon. Lysander: thanks for checking us out. I hear you on the mass of dodgy recipes. While we don’t have nutritional data, we also don’t have dodgy recipes. (We hope. If you find one, let us know and we’ll address it.) Your dream recipe site sounds fantastic, and while we’re a ways away from true “in-recipe” revisions, we’re close to launching a meal builder with which you can create and save meals using recipes on Cookthink (and, eventually, other sites). It’ll come in handy as you cook for your wife. As for clarifications in instructions and changes to recipes, we’re always available if you have questions or suggestions. Thanks!

This is an excellent idea… I’m always wishing I could find recipes exactly suited to my cravings for…cheese, onions, and something exuberant :)

[…] Filed under: On the Blogs Cookthink has only been around for a year, but for those of us who hang out on the food interwebs on a regular basis, it is hard to imagine the scene without them, as their voice has been such a positive and lovely addition to the food conversation. Here at Slashfood, we’ve repeatedly linked to their perfect recipes and gorgeous images. I’ve been inspired on many occasions to leap up from my computer and head to the kitchen after their Root Source newsletter lands in my inbox. […]
