Ideal Bite’s Chip Tip
March 28th, 2007
Both Brys and I talk about how we wish we had more green in us. We do both work from home and other than the kitchen and the computer, we use very little electricity.
And we are both pretty curious about food production and policy, and try to know as much as we can about where what we eat comes from. But in general, when we think about food, we think first about flavor, about the immediate experience of eating.
To compensate, we count on blogs like the Ethicurean, a group effort whose daily digest is the first thing I read in the morning.
Another daily green read for me: Ideal Bite. Like tens of thousands of others, I’ve been getting their Daily Tip emails for the past year or so and have especially enjoyed their Wednesday food tips. (Ideal Bite’s daily tip was a big inspiration for the root source.) The Ideal Bite crew is suggestive, playful and charmingly unpushy (and just plain charming — Brys was deflated to hear that Jen has been “kindling a new friendship with a certain gentleman” that’s not him) — like a teacher who makes you want to get an A+.
Today’s Bite is called The Chip Tip, and in addition to being their best title yet, it’s a perfect accompaniment to tomorrow’s root source on the Hass avocado.

Bravo to you! You all might be the first people to figure out our magic tip scheduling formula (ok, so maybe not so magic, but yes, Wednesday’s tips are always on food and drink…). Clearly, someone has been doing their homework. Brys, I’ll see if I can’t get Jen to come over here and flirt with you a little to make you feel better…
;) Great blog - love what you are doing!

Flirting on demand is akin to someone saying, “quick! be funny!” - thanks Heather buddy ol’ pal.
Not to mention, I feel a bit out of sorts on a foodie blog when I can’t really cook more than 3 meals (and one of those is a breakfast dish).
Plus, recently the whole cooking thing got more sensitive when my chicken coop consultant asked how I was impressing all the boys without being able to cook. I ‘fired’ him. It should have been obvious, to him at least.
Maybe I could stop back in for some SIMPLE egg-based recipes. I will have lots of free-range, organic eggs soon… http://www.idealbite.com/photogallery/photo_category/C10/.

Heather and Jen: Thanks for stopping by. We’ll have lots of eggs-for-dinner recipes, Jen, so let me know when yours start coming in. We’ll put together some simple recipes for you to try out. And of course, the next time the two of you are in D.C., you’ll have to come by for a Cookthink dinner.

Thanks Brys.. the eggs will start coming in about 3 months… definitely enough time for me to practice with eggs from the co-op so I can be sure to nail my first dish with eggs from Henrietta, Henquin, Hermosa, Hedwig, Hope, and Hippy Chick.
I went to grad school in DC and sometimes get back to see people or speak or attend green events… will defintely take you up on offer for Cookthink dinner. Of course, if you ever find yourself in Bozeman, stop by for an omlette. - Jen

Jen, I love the names of your chicks. I will definitely let you know if I find myself in Bozeman. (I swore I would make it out that way to ski this year, but it’s not looking good.) Would be great to meet you and check on your and the chicks’ egg progress.
And please do take us up on a Cookthink dinner if you make it to D.C. Beatiful here now, cherry trees and all, and farmers’ markets gearing up soon.

Thanks. Henquin is my fave, since she has markings like a penquin - with funny little wings to boot.
And don’t be bummed about not making it out there, skiing is over-rated in my opinion. I mean it is great, but have you ever seen the Gallatin or Madison Valley in the summer? I don’t have any good pics posted, but this one will give you a slight idea: http://www.idealbite.com/photogallery/image_full/43/. And another fishing: http://www.idealbite.com/photogallery/image_full/20/. I guess I could send you some better ones to your personal email to inspire a trip, but then your readers might be bummed we took it off-blog.

Nice fish — did you release that one? And beautiful scenery. The last time I was on a horse in the Rockies was when I was 10! Got some great pictures of that if you’re into tough kids with blonde bowl cuts. Anyway, I think our readers will survive if we remove ourselves. Please send more inspiring pictures to: brys@cookthink.com.

Yes, I definitely released it as I my pecan-encrusted trout recipe isn’t up to snuff.
