William Angus Brantley was born late Sunday night. 11:16pm, as it says on his just-signed birth certificate. He weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. He’s big and healthy and seems pretty laidback so far. (I know I’ll come to regret having written those words.) Elizabeth feels great, all things considered, and says thank you for all your good wishes and prayers. More soon.
For the record, after trying all kinds of recipes to induce labor over the course of the past two weeks, Elizabeth’s last meal before giving birth was Bittman’s twice-cooked pork (crusted in cumin, coriander and fennel seed), chimichurri potato salad and simple steamed asparagus. I’m not suggesting any correlation between the meal and the labor, but one followed four hours behind the other. Considering he was 12 days late, though, I think he was just ready to get out regardless of what his mother was eating.
