Welcome Angus Brantley!

by admin on October 2, 2007 · 20 comments

William Angus Brantley was born late Sunday night. 11:16pm, as it says on his just-signed birth certificate. He weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. He’s big and healthy and seems pretty laidback so far. (I know I’ll come to regret having written those words.) Elizabeth feels great, all things considered, and says thank you for all your good wishes and prayers. More soon.

For the record, after trying all kinds of recipes to induce labor over the course of the past two weeks, Elizabeth’s last meal before giving birth was Bittman’s twice-cooked pork (crusted in cumin, coriander and fennel seed), chimichurri potato salad and simple steamed asparagus. I’m not suggesting any correlation between the meal and the labor, but one followed four hours behind the other. Considering he was 12 days late, though, I think he was just ready to get out regardless of what his mother was eating.

Congratulations. He is beautiful. Is he named after the classic film, “Angus”? I hope so, because that movie owns.

What a beautiful baby! Congratulations! I’m at 15 weeks, so when it gets to be time to urge my little baby along, I’ll let you know how Bittman’s twice-cooked pork works :) Then we’ll have an N=2 :)

What a beauty! Congratulations to the whole family. Babies are like avocados that way – they’re ready when they’re ready. Erm, I mean, not literally, don’t try putting him in a paper bag with an apple or anything. And Angus, don’t sweat the whole “12 days late” thing…it’s not like you have anything to catch up on at this point.

Thanks, everybody, for welcoming Angus. He’s had an eventful first week of life (and has the hiccups right now).

Reminds me of an old friend whose wife was quite overdue. Finally they hospitalized her and the really concentrated waiting began. Next, uncle-to-be began picketing the halls with a placard reading “Free Eli.”

Enjoy. Little one has a good leg up in life with parents who love food.

Congrats!
